Igbo Group Commends Tinubu for Infrastructural Development in South East
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
The Igbodike Movement has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as significant infrastructural and developmental strides in the South-East region.
In a statement issued by the National Coordinator of the movement, Dr. Peter Nwankwo, the group stated that President Tinubu’s administration has recorded notable achievements in the South-East, particularly in the areas of infrastructure renewal, institutional development, economic empowerment, and regional integration.
According to Dr. Nwankwo, the Igbodike Movement observed that one of the administration’s major milestones is the operationalisation of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
He explained that President Tinubu demonstrated commitment to the development of the region through the appointment and inauguration of the pioneer board of the commission.
He noted that the SEDC serves as a dedicated federal intervention agency tasked with rebuilding, rehabilitating, and constructing critical infrastructure across the five South-East states.
Dr. Nwankwo further stated that the administration has made considerable progress in the area of infrastructure and road rehabilitation by approving and executing several strategic road projects aimed at improving connectivity, commerce, and economic integration within the region and beyond.
He listed some of the ongoing projects to include the reconstruction and dualisation of major road corridors such as the Onueke–Afikpo Highway, the rehabilitation of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, and the Trans-Sahara Superhighway traversing parts of the region.
He also referenced bridge construction projects linking Ebonyi State with Cross River State as part of broader efforts to improve inter-state transportation and regional access.
The group also acknowledged the administration’s intervention in the aviation sector.
According to the statement, the current administration has initiated targeted rehabilitation and upgrading works at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, alongside the modernization of other regional airstrips to enhance air transportation, boost business activities, facilitate trade, and improve overall economic connectivity within the South-East.
Speaking further on social investment programmes, Dr. Nwankwo noted that citizens of the South-East have also benefited from several national intervention initiatives introduced by the Tinubu administration.
He cited programmes such as the Presidential Loan and Grant Scheme for micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises, as well as the student loan programme under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which he said have provided economic relief and educational opportunities to many young people and small business owners in the region.
He added that although these developmental strides are gradually transforming the infrastructural landscape of the South-East, the administration must sustain momentum by addressing lingering challenges, especially the backlog of abandoned federal projects and the persistent issue of gully erosion affecting many communities across the region.
Dr. Nwankwo stated that the federal government has continued to engage South-East leaders, relevant stakeholders, and the Federal Ministry of Works in efforts to tackle these longstanding environmental and infrastructural concerns.
The Igbodike Movement reaffirmed its support for policies and programmes capable of fostering sustainable development, national unity, and inclusive governance across all regions of the country.
