Stakeholders Endorse Akwuobi for Assembly

Barely a few days to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) primary election, the people of Okpoko Community in Ogbaru Constituency I, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, have reiterated their readiness to throw their weight behind Sir Kenneth Akwuobi.

Residents, youths, and community stakeholders said Akwuobi’s track record at the local government level has demonstrated that he is prepared for higher responsibilities and capable of bringing a fresh approach to representation in Okpoko and the entire constituency.

According to them, their support for him has remained unwavering, especially now that Sir Kenneth Akwuobi has successfully scaled through the party’s screening exercise and secured the party’s Expression of Interest form.

Hon. Akwuobi, the incumbent Mayor of Ogbaru Local Government Area, is widely described across the council area as a leader who listens, acts, and delivers on his promises.

Since assuming office as Mayor, residents say Ogbaru has witnessed meaningful engagement and notable developmental strides, including the renovation of the legislative building, the rebuilding and upgrading of the environmental block into a two-storey structure, and the construction of a traditional rulers’ block.

Other projects attracted by his administration include the installation of solar-powered boreholes, the execution of ₦20 million community projects, agricultural empowerment programmes, and the evacuation of long-abandoned heaps of refuse in Okpoko and Upper Iweka.

Sir Kenneth Akwuobi also embarked on several road rehabilitation projects, including the rehabilitation of the Chisco Park entrance gate road, the Coca-Cola Market entrance, as well as the rebuilding and beautification of Ogbaru Junction, formerly known as Uga Junction, among others.

Speaking on the growing support for the mayor, a prominent stakeholder in Okpoko, Chief Chinedu Ezeonye, noted that Akwuobi represents a departure from the old style of politics in the area.

“We are tired of representatives who disappear after elections. Hon. Akwuobi is always on ground. He attends our meetings, responds to our calls, and treats everyone with respect. This is the kind of new leadership Okpoko Community needs,” he stated.

Sir Kenneth Akwuobi’s decision to contest for a seat in the Anambra State House of Assembly is being viewed by many as an opportunity to change the narrative of representation in Ogbaru Constituency I.

“We do not just need a politician; we need someone who understands our problems and has the courage to push for solutions. That is why we are saying: Hon. Kenneth Akwuobi should go and represent us,” Elder Reuben Foster Ibemaife said.

Meanwhile, with consultations ongoing across the wards in Okpoko, supporters say momentum is steadily building around a campaign anchored on service, accountability, and visible development, qualities they insist Sir Kenneth Akwuobi has already demonstrated as the sitting Mayor of Ogbaru Local Government Area.

According to stakeholders, if elected, Hon. Akwuobi is expected to focus on infrastructure development, youth job creation, support for traders and farmers, and stronger legislative oversight to ensure that Okpoko and the wider Ogbaru Constituency I receive their fair share of state projects and opportunities.
