Bid to Overturn My Primary Win Exposed — Anambra Deputy Speaker

By Raymond Ozoji, Awka

The Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly and House of Representatives hopeful for Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Pius Okoye, has alleged a plot by political jobbers to scuttle his victory in the APGA primary election for the constituency.

Okoye, who polled 4,465 votes as announced by the Returning Officer, Elizabeth Nwokeocha, defeated other contestants by a wide margin and was subsequently declared the winner of the APGA primary election for Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency.

He further alleged that despite his official declaration as the winner of the primary election, information available to him indicated that some disgruntled elements were plotting to overturn his victory by allegedly planning to reconduct elections in three wards within the constituency, even after the Returning Officer had declared him winner.

The Deputy Speaker insisted that he possesses video evidence of his declaration by the Returning Officer. He maintained that the people overwhelmingly accepted and endorsed his aspiration to represent Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber, stressing that the massive votes he garnered reflected the confidence and support of the electorate.

Meanwhile, a video clip of the Returning Officer, Elizabeth Nwokeocha, has surfaced, showing the formal declaration of the Deputy Speaker as the winner of the APGA primary election for Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency.

In the video, Nwokeocha stated:

“The House of Representatives primary election of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), I, Elizabeth Nwokeocha, hereby declare that, having satisfied all the requirements and considering all the results collated from the field and duly collated by the Collation Officer, Hon. Okoye Chukwuma Pius, having scored a total of 4,465 votes, is hereby declared the winner of this primary election.”
