The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Senator Uche Ekwunife, has promised to provide Akwu-Ukwu community with a functional electricity transformer within three months of assuming office, if elected in the 2027 general election.

Ekwunife made the commitment during her campaign tour of Akwu-Ukwu, where she called on the electorate to support her return to the Senate on the strength of her record of interventions and projects in the community.

The community received the Senator with fanfare, colour and music, as traditional rulers, community leaders, women, children and other residents turned out in large numbers to welcome her.

Among those who received her on arrival were members of the Igwe-in-Council and the President-General of Akwu-Ukwu, Sir Udoka Ejiakor.

In a spontaneous display of camaraderie, Ekwunife broke protocol shortly after her arrival by joining women and children on the dance floor to perform to KCee’s cultural praise song, rather than proceeding directly to the high table.

Her decision to dance with the residents attracted loud cheers from the crowd and set a lively tone for the gathering.

After the reception, a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Tony Uche, and the APC Zonal Chairman, Chief Augustine Muomaife, addressed the gathering.

Both party chieftains spoke in support of the APC candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives, describing them as candidates who could effectively represent the interests of the senatorial zone and the constituency at the National Assembly.

Muomaife subsequently invited the APC House of Representatives candidate, Hon. KK Ezekwelu, to address the people.

Ezekwelu recalled that he had previously visited the community and explained that his decision to accompany Ekwunife on the campaign tour was informed by his confidence in her political record and the testimonies he had heard from communities visited earlier.

He said he was impressed by the accounts of her interventions and pledged that, if elected, he would replicate in Akwu-Ukwu the kind of projects and initiatives attributed to her.

When Ekwunife was eventually called upon to speak, the enthusiasm of the crowd was such that residents demanded another round of dancing.

The Senator had to appeal to them to allow her address the gathering, explaining that the campaign schedule was constrained by time.

Addressing the people, Ekwunife said she would not need to make lengthy speeches because her projects and interventions in Akwu-Ukwu provided tangible evidence of her engagement with the community.

She recalled her contributions to the education sector, including the distribution of educational materials and the provision of school furniture to St. John Secondary School, Akwu-Ukwu.

The Senator also highlighted three free medical outreaches she had organised in the community, through which residents benefited from free medical consultations and medications.

Other interventions she listed included the installation of streetlights, the donation of tricycles and the provision of grants exceeding half a million naira to two indigenes of Akwu-Ukwu.

She maintained that the interventions formed part of her record of engagement with the people and should be considered by the electorate in deciding who would represent them at the National Assembly.

Emphasising the importance of grassroots politics, Ekwunife told the residents that politics was local and urged them to vote for her and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

She appealed to the electorate to assess her candidature based on her record of projects and community interventions rather than political sentiments.

The APC senatorial candidate also gave a specific assurance on the community’s electricity needs, promising that Akwu-Ukwu would receive a functional transformer within three months of her assumption of office as Senator.

The promise formed a major highlight of her engagement with the community, as she sought to reinforce her appeal through a combination of past interventions and a fresh commitment to address an identified infrastructure need.

The visit featured expressions of goodwill from community leaders and residents, who welcomed the Senator and participated enthusiastically in the reception and campaign activities.
