Ojoto Vows Not to Be Deceived Again, Declares Support for Ekwunife’s 2027 Senate Bid

By Titus Eleweke

The people of Ojoto in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State have declared their support for Senator Uche Ekwunife, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District in the 2027 general election, pledging to support her return to the Senate.

The declaration was made during the third day of Ekwunife’s ongoing community tour of the senatorial district, which attracted a large crowd of residents, traditional leaders, political stakeholders and supporters of the APC.

The gathering was marked by chants of “Nwanyi ge jee” and “Ka Nwanyi jekene” as residents welcomed the former senator, signalling their enthusiasm for her visit.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Chief Romanus Anyisia, Ichie Obodo Dike II, who led the Igwe-in-Cabinet and represented the traditional ruler, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu, said Ojoto would not allow itself to be deceived again in making its political choices.

Anyisia described Ekwunife’s senatorial aspiration as one backed by experience and her previous engagements with the people, insisting that her record of representation had earned her recognition not only in Ojoto but across the senatorial district.

He assured her that the community was prepared to support her ambition in the 2027 election.

The visit attracted several political leaders and dignitaries, including Hon. KK Ezekwelu, the APC candidate for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency; the party’s Zonal Vice Chairman, Chief Augustine Muomaife; Hon. Ossy Egwuatu; Dr. Chidi Chidubem; Rev. Uche Ibeabuchi; Hon. Tony Uche Ezekwelu; and Okello Madukaife.

Addressing the gathering, Muomaife called on the people of Ojoto to consider Ekwunife’s previous representation and the projects and interventions she attracted to the area in deciding who should represent the district in the Senate.

He said the community should support a candidate whose political record and previous engagements with the people could be assessed.

Similarly, KK Ezekwelu urged the people to support the APC candidates in the forthcoming elections, expressing confidence in the party’s political prospects in the community.

When Ekwunife addressed the gathering, she recalled some of her interventions in Ojoto, including the provision of boreholes, educational materials, tricycles, solar-powered streetlights and grants to 17 indigenes of the community.

She urged the people to assess political office seekers based on their records of service rather than promises made during election campaigns.

The former senator cautioned residents against politicians who, according to her, remember communities only when elections are approaching but fail to maintain meaningful engagements with the people after securing political offices.

She urged the electorate to support APC candidates across the various elective positions, advocating an alignment of political representation at the National Assembly and the Federal Government.

According to her, having a senator, a member of the House of Representatives and a government at the centre working under the same political platform would provide an opportunity for better coordination of development initiatives and delivery of projects to the constituency.

The presence of APC candidates and party leaders at the gathering also provided an opportunity for the party to canvass support for its candidates across the senatorial, federal constituency and other elective positions ahead of the 2027 general election.

Ekwunife’s community tour is part of her ongoing engagements with stakeholders and residents across Anambra Central Senatorial District as political activities gather momentum ahead of the next general election.
