Police Dismantle Drug Trafficking Network in Anambra, Arrest Woman,, Five Others

The Anambra State Police Command has successfully dismantled a major drug trafficking network operating in the Isuaniocha community of Awka North Local Government Area.
During a coordinated raid, six suspects,including a female identified as a major drug dealer were apprehended. Law enforcement officers also recovered a significant quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, along with various other illicit substances and incriminating materials.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation was carried out in the early hours of Friday by operatives of the Special Cultism Squad, Obosi Sector.
The raid was based on credible intelligence received by the command.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:Chinyere Onwuka (female), aged 32,John Kennedy Onwuka (male), aged 36,Chidiebere Onyeze (male), aged 30,Echeazu Nonso (male), aged 35,Osita Chukwu Chialuka (male), aged 21 and Nnebedum Wisdom (male), aged 25
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed concern over the increasing rate of drug abuse among youths in the state.
He described drug consumption as “the oxygen that fuels most criminal activities and antisocial behavior.”
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to curbing drug abuse and trafficking through intensified enforcement and proactive advocacy. One of the key initiatives is the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), a community-based program aimed at sensitizing young people on the dangers of drug abuse and criminal involvement.
SP Ikenga also confirmed that all six suspects will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Awka, for further investigation and prosecution.
