Gunmen Attack Vigilante Office in Umunze, Burn Five Operational Vehicles

Gunmen have attacked the office of the Anambra State Vigilante Group in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area, setting five of its operational vehicles ablaze.
According to a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.
Ikenga stated that a portion of the security office was also set on fire by the assailants, and one of the vigilante operatives sustained fatal injuries during the attack.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has strongly condemned the assault on the local security operatives, emphasizing the need for community collaboration in identifying and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“It is unfortunate that suspected armed men attacked the vigilante office at Umunze and set five of their operational vehicles ablaze,” Ikenga reiterated.
He added that the operatives attempted to repel the attackers during a gun duel, during which one of them was fatally injured noting that parts of the security facility were destroyed in the process.
Following the incident, the Police-led Joint Security Force has taken control of the scene. The police Authorities are calling for the cooperation of local residents to aid in the ongoing security operations aimed at apprehending those responsible for the attack.
