The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued two abducted children, aged between 3 and 5 years.

The children were rescued on Thursday by police operatives attached to the Ozubulu Divisional Headquarters at Okpuno-Oba, in the Idemili South Local Government Area.

The arrested suspects have been identified as 19-year-old Onyedika Daniel (male) and 25-year-old Nkechi Onuwa (female).

According to a statement released on Saturday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives responded swiftly after receiving a report from the mother of the victims.

She reported that one of her children had returned and told her that an unknown individual had taken away his two siblings while they were on their way to her shop along Nwafor Junction, Eziora, Ozubulu.

During interrogation, Onyedika confessed to the crime and led the police to Oba, where he had handed the children over to Nkechi Onuwa as part of their criminal plan.

Ikenga added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate, and the case will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

He emphasized that this successful operation reflects the Command’s ongoing commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society and addressing crimes against children.
