NYSC DG to Corps Members in Anambra: Turn Service Year Into National Impact
Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General O.O. Nafiu
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General O.O. Nafiu, has urged Corps Members deployed to Anambra State to view the one-year mandatory service not merely as an obligation, but as a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Brigadier General Nafiu made this statement on Friday during an official visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to him, the core purpose of the orientation programme is to instill values such as discipline, unity, and team spirit among Corps Members.
He further emphasized the significance of the NYSC Anthem, describing it as more than just a song but a daily guide to purposeful and impactful service.
The Director-General commended the newly enlisted Corps Members for their discipline and enthusiasm.
He expressed delight at the large turnout of Corps Members who gathered to witness the event.
In appreciation of their conduct and spirit, Brigadier General Nafiu donated two cows to the camp.
He charged the Corps Members to see their service year as a transformative period,one that not only facilitates personal growth but also lays a foundation for national renaissance.
Earlier, the Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, commended the professionalism and orderliness exhibited by the 1,186 Corps Members currently undergoing orientation in the state, comprising 679 males and 507 females.
She described the DG’s visit as both an honour and a morale booster for the state and the Corps Members.
A highlight of the visit included the DG joining Corps Members in celebrating several birthdays, cutting a symbolic cake, and lightening the atmosphere with a spontaneous dance to the tune of “Lonely at the Top” performed by the camp’s Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) band.
The Director-General was also entertained by a cultural dance performance from Platoon 5, representing Edo culture.
