The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, has issued a stern warning that any failure or compromise in prosecuting those responsible for the recent killings of Ebonyi indigenes in Anambra State would jeopardize the currently cordial relationship between Ebonyi and Anambra state.

Reaffirming the Ebonyi State Government’s unwavering commitment to protecting its citizens regardless of where they reside, Governor Nwifuru appealed to the people of Ebonyi especially the families affected by the tragic incident in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State to remain calm and patient during this difficult period.

The governor extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them that justice will be served without delay.

On Monday, no fewer than ten defenseless indigenes of Ebonyi State were brutally murdered while holding a meeting in Orumba South LGA, Anambra State.

This disturbing information was contained in a statement released to journalists in Abakaliki by the Chief Press Secretary to the Ebonyi State Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor.

The statement condemned the killings as an act of barbarism with no place in modern society.

It further affirmed that state security forces would be deployed promptly to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Governor Nwifuru strongly denounced the killings, saying, “It defies reason and logic that a group of Ebonyi people peacefully holding a meeting would be shot at close range.

This is unacceptable, and I condemn this heinous act in its entirety. However, I urge the state and the affected families to remain calm and refrain from any form of reprisal.”

The governor also disclosed that he had reached out to his Anambra State counterpart, Prof. Charles  Soludo, calling for a swift, thorough, and transparent investigation to uncover the motive behind the killings and ensure that the culprits are held accountable.

Describing the incident as “barbaric” and “a direct assault on peace, unity, and the sanctity of human life,” Governor Nwifuru cautioned that any failure or compromise in prosecuting those responsible could strain the presently harmonious relations between Ebonyi and Anambra states.

He reaffirmed  Ebonyi State’s firm commitment to safeguarding its citizens wherever they live.
