The political landscape of People’s  Democrats Party (PDP), Anambra State chapter  is once again roiled by upheaval, with the recent exit of Dr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, former chairman of the  Party in the state, sending shockwaves through the already fragile party structure.

Dr. Nwobu’s defection to the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) as the deputy governorship candidate is not merely a personal political maneuver but a stark symptom of a party in disarray a crisis that threatens the PDP’s relevance and coherence in Anambra State.

Dr. Nwobu’s tenure as PDP chairman in Anambra State was marked by an intense internal struggle, especially his relentless battle against anti-party elements bent on installing an imposition state executive.

His commitment to democratic processes within the party and resistance to undemocratic intrusions highlighted the chronic internal dysfunctions that have bedeviled the PDP in Anambra. Unfortunately, rather than being rewarded for his principled stand, Dr. Nwobu found himself isolated and eventually pushed to the margins, culminating in his strategic exit.

This defection is symptomatic of a deeper malaise, the PDP in Anambra is grappling with entrenched factionalism, leadership crises, and a failure to present a united front against the ruling party and other formidable contenders. The anti-party activities, often fueled by godfatherism, manipulation from influential party heavyweights, and unrestrained ambition have eroded the party’s foundational principles and fractured its grassroots support.

Dr. Nwobu’s departure serves as a clarion call for introspection within the PDP. It underscores the urgent need for reconciliation, restructuring, and an inclusive approach that genuinely respects the voices of stakeholders at all levels. The party risks not only losing influential leaders but also the trust of its supporters if it continues down this path of discord and internal sabotage.

Moreover, Dr. Nwobu’s move to ADC signals the growing appeal of alternative platforms that promise more democratic governance and respect for internal party democracy. For PDP, this should be a wake-up call to urgently reform and reconnect with its base, lest it becomes irrelevant in Anambra’s highly competitive political terrain.

In conclusion, the exit of Dr. Ndubusisi Nwobu is a poignant chapter in the ongoing crisis engulfing PDP in Anambra State. It is a crisis that demands swift and decisive action, from grassroots reconciliation to transparent leadership reforms to salvage the party’s image and electoral prospects. Failure to address these structural challenges will only deepen the wounds and further alienate committed members, risking the party’s long-term viability in one of Nigeria’s key political battlegrounds.
