IGP Steps Up Anti-Crime Fight in Anambra
I’mThe Anambra State Police Command has intensified efforts to combat violent crimes through the deployment of operatives of the Inspector-General of Police’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) across the state.
The initiative is part of sustained operations aimed at denying criminal elements access to the state and enhancing public safety.
The team was recently inaugurated as part of the efforts of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, to rid the state of criminal activities and safeguard residents.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the unit in Anambra State is headed by CSP Ahmed Ayuba, who serves as the General Commander of the VCRU in the state.
The statement described CSP Ahmed Ayuba as a thoroughbred policing professional with extensive operational experience.
Before his appointment, he served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Special Anti-Cult Unit in the Anambra State Command.
He also previously served as the Officer-in-Charge of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, and as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Obosi Division, among other strategic operational positions within the command.
CSP Ahmed Ayuba holds a Master’s Degree in Security, Peace and Conflict Resolution from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
He has distinguished himself through his commitment to intelligence-led policing, tactical operations, and effective public safety management.
The command advised members of the public not to panic over the increased movement and presence of tactical police officers across the state, noting that operatives of the VCRU have intensified coordinated raids, surveillance operations, stop-and-search duties, and strategic deployment of personnel to identified criminal flashpoints.
According to the statement, the operations are specifically targeted at combating kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, gunrunning, and other violent crimes.
Residents were therefore encouraged to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information that could assist ongoing operations.
