The Governing Council of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), formerly Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, has dismissed three lecturers over allegations of s@xual harassment.

The affected lecturers are Mr. Nurudeen Hassan from the Mass Communication Department, and Mr. Kareem Arigbabu and Mr. Olayinka Uthman, both from the Arts and Design Department.

In a memo titled “Dismissal of Staff Members Due to S@xual Harassment Allegations,” the university announced that the decision to sack the three lecturers was reached after deliberations by the institution’s Governing Council. This action was taken in accordance with Section 5.5.2(v) of the University Senior Staff Conditions of Service.

The memo states:

“The Governing Council of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has taken decisive action in response to allegations of s@xual harassment involving three staff members. After a thorough investigation and deliberation, the council has approved their dismissal.”

“This decision, effective immediately, is in accordance with Section 5.5.2(v) of the University Senior Staff Conditions of Service.”

The university reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on s@xual harassment, describing the dismissals as a reflection of its commitment to curbing the rising cases of such misconduct.

“The university takes allegations of s@xual harassment seriously, as they compromise the institution’s image and disrupt the academic environment. The Governing Council’s decision reflects the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful campus community,” the memo further reads.

Confirming the dismissals, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Olanrewaju Kuye, told our correspondent that the decision was based on recommendations from the institution’s disciplinary committee.

“It is true, the three lecturers were dismissed. The Governing Council followed all procedures. We issued queries before the dismissals were finalized,” he said.
