ADC Unveils Strategy to Unseat President Tinubu in 2027
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled its strategic roadmap to unseat President Bola Tinubu and remove the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in the 2027 general elections.
According to the party, its central strategy involves mobilizing broad grassroots support nationwide to drive what it described as a democratic revolution.
The ADC declared that it would match the APC “tactic for tactic” and affirmed its readiness for the upcoming elections.
Speaking after a closed-door session of the National Political Consultative Group (North), held in Abuja over the weekend, ADC spokesman Malam Bolaji Abdullahi stated that the party remains undeterred by the absence of high-profile defections.
He said the ADC enjoys significant grassroots support and continues to position itself as Nigeria’s most viable alternative for national transformation.
Abdullahi attributed the lack of serving governors within the party to what he described as “intimidation tactics” by the Tinubu-led administration.
He maintained that such tactics would not derail the party’s mission.
“No serving governor wants to join us now due to the kind of intimidation they are facing. But we are convinced that we represent a movement backed by the majority of Nigerians,Nigerians who are increasingly dissatisfied with the direction in which this country is heading,” he stated.
The meeting, which took place at the Continental Hotel in Abuja, was attended by prominent opposition figures, including former Senate President and Interim National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David Mark; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal; former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai; former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami (SAN); Senator Dino Melaye; Malam Kashim Imam; Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, and Chairman of the ADC Board of Trustees, Dr. Mani Ibrahim.
Responding to speculation that the ADC would collapse within six months, Abdullahi dismissed such predictions as unfounded.
“When we began, they said we were dead on arrival. Now they’re giving us six months. After six months, they’ll extend it again. This coalition reflects the urgent desire of Nigerians to be freed from a crisis of national existence,” he said.
He added that the ADC remains resilient, grounded, and is receiving daily endorsements from across the country. “Every Nigerian who is hungry, who cannot afford school fees, whose salary has lost its value, knows that the only real alternative today is the ADC,” Abdullahi said.
Addressing concerns about a potential hijack of the party by vested interests, he assured that the ADC’s functional structures and broad-based participation would prevent any such takeover by a political cabal.
In his keynote address, Interim Chairman Senator David Mark decried the worsening socio-political conditions in Northern Nigeria, stating that the region is “bleeding profusely” and in urgent need of healing.
“The North is bleeding, and we are the only ones who can heal it,” while speaking on the theme Peace and Social Cohesion: A Panacea to Challenges in the North.he declared.
Also speaking, Babachir Lawal said that northerners had directed their leaders to adopt the ADC as the platform through which to pursue regional and national interests.
“Our people have encouraged, directed, and mandated us to organise ourselves and deliver through the ADC,” he affirmed.
On concerns about potential electoral manipulation in 2027, Lawal was resolute: “Votes do count, and we are going to make sure they count. Whatever techniques or malicious strategies the APC deploys, we will match and defeat them.”he added.
