Injured Ocha Brigade personnel at upper Iweka, Onitsha
A dismissed operative of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (Ocha Brigade), identified as Charles Onyebuchi, reportedly led a group of thugs to attack staff of the agency, seriously injuring one officer at Upper Iweka, Onitsha, Anambra State.
Reports indicate that Onyebuchi, who was previously disengaged from the agency, stormed the Ocha Brigade duty post at Upper Iweka with his gang.
He allegedly targeted one of the operatives, Chukwudi Nwali, whom he accused of orchestrating his dismissal.
Narrating the incident to journalists, Emmanuel Okechukwu, a fellow operative who witnessed the attack, claimed that Onyebuchi’s actions were retaliatory.
According to him, Onyebuchi believed Nwali was responsible for his termination from the agency.
“We were on duty at Upper Iweka when Charles Onyebuchi and his thugs ambushed us. They began beating Nwali, inflicted serious injuries, and attempted to flee. However, we managed to apprehend Onyebuchi, although the others escaped,” Okechukwu stated.
Following the incident, Onyebuchi was handed over to the Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA), while the injured operative, Chukwudi Nwali, was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Confirming the attack, the Onitsha unit coordinator of Ocha Brigade, Mr. Ejike Odife, stated that Charles Onyebuchi was dismissed due to misconduct.
He clarified that no individual, including Chukwudi Nwali, was responsible for Onyebuchi’s dismissal.
Mr. Odife condemned the assault on the operative and called for Onyebuchi to be prosecuted for attacking law enforcement personnel on duty. Speaking via telephone due to illness, he assured the public that Onyebuchi, the main culprit, would be brought to justice.
