Tinubu Showers Super Falcons with ₦150m, Homes,Honours After WAFCON Win,Crew Receives ₦75m
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has awarded Nigeria’s Super Falcons ₦150 million in cash each, alongside a generous reward package, in recognition of their outstanding performance on the international stage, culminating in their triumphant WAFCON victory that brought pride and honour to the nation.
This announcement was made on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy.
According to Onanuga, each Super Falcons player will receive a fully furnished three-bedroom apartment as well as a cash reward of $100,000 (approximately ₦150 million).
Additionally, all team members will be conferred with the prestigious national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), one of Nigeria’s highest civilian awards.
“President Tinubu has stunned the Super Falcons with generous gifts the first time the ten-time WAFCON champions have been so handsomely rewarded by their country,”
“Each player will receive $100,000, each technical crew member $50,000, a three-bedroom flat in Renewed Hope Estate, and the OON national honour for both players and crew. Aisha Falode noted that the Super Falcons have never been treated so well until now, when President Tinubu accorded them an unprecedented grand reception.” Onanuga stated.
The President also extended the reward package to the technical crew, awarding each member $50,000 (approximately ₦75 million) in recognition of their significant contributions to the team’s success.
Recall that the Super Falcons clinched their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in a dramatic comeback last weekend after trailing 2–0 at halftime.
Morocco initially took the lead through Ghizlane Chebbak in the 13th minute, followed by Sanaa Mssoudy doubling their advantage in the 28th minute.
Nigeria’s revival began in the 63rd minute when Esther Okoronkwo calmly converted a penalty awarded after a VAR review.
In the 71st minute, Okoronkwo set up Folashade Ijamilusi, who scored to level the match.
The drama culminated in the 88th minute when Jennifer Echegini headed in a well-delivered free kick from Okoronkwo, sealing a 3–2 victory for Nigeria.
