Anambra 2025: AA’s Governorship Candidate Nweke Warns Politicians Against Dirty, Derogatory Language

Ozo Jeff Nweke

The governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) for the upcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election, Ozo Jeff Nweke, has issued a strong appeal to fellow contenders to avoid the use of derogatory and inflammatory language at the ongoing campaign.

In a public statement, Ozo Jeff Nweke urged his co-contenders to conduct their campaigns on the basis of issues, not personal attacks or verbal assaults.

He said that democracy thrives when there is a respectful exchange of ideas and constructive competition not when campaigns are reduced to mudslinging and insults.

According to Nweke, there is nothing inherently wrong with the presence of multiple candidates offering different visions and strategies for tackling the issues that affect Anambra State. On the contrary, he sees such diversity as a reflection of a healthy democracy one in which competing policies and ideologies give the electorate genuine options.

He encouraged political actors whom he respectfully referred to as “fellow candidates in this era of political contestation” to resist the temptation to engage in what he termed “legendary misspeak,” a phrase he used to describe the kind of slanderous rhetoric that ultimately erodes public trust and damages one’s own integrity.

Ozo Jeff Nweke further emphasized the importance of sportsmanship in politics and appealed for civility, maturity, and a commitment to the common good.

His statement reads in part:”Politics is a natural phenomenon embedded in human existence. It is coded in our conscious and unconscious resolve to influence and be influenced. This reality makes it imperative that we conduct ourselves with the kind of sophistication that reflects intelligence, dignity, and a genuine commitment to human relationships.”

“I concur with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s observation that politics offers a platform to effect positive societal change. Indeed, change is a constant like a river, it flows through time, washing away outdated patterns and replacing them with new possibilities. While the old ways may still hold value, the human desire for progress compels us to pursue better outcomes.”

“In this light, I see no fault in the display of multiple options, strategies, and policies all aimed at solving the pressing issues faced by our people. Such diversity is a strength, not a weakness. However, we must be vigilant against the temptation to tarnish one another with negative labels or divisive language. This not only diminishes our individual credibility, but also pollutes the political atmosphere.”

“Let us instead cultivate a spirit of sportsmanship. Let us present our ideas and proposals with clarity, purpose, and sincerity. In doing so, we will not only advance our democratic values but also demonstrate that Anambra has truly come of age a people united by a shared vision for genuine progress and problem-solving.”

“To sum it up: let us engage in fine politics. Let our campaigns be issue-based, not insult-driven. Let us rise above petty rhetoric and show the people of Anambra that we are worthy of their trust and their future.”
