Soludo Flags Off Road Construction in Onitsha

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has officially flagged off the construction of St. Stephen’s Road at the Emmanuel Church Road junction in Onitsha, the commercial heartbeat of the state.

This development marks a significant milestone in the governor’s urban renewal agenda, particularly his administration’s commitment to revitalizing Onitsha’s internal road network and transforming the city’s infrastructure.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Soludo noted that his administration has remained focused on infrastructural development across the state since taking office.

He cited the ongoing transformation of Okpoko, clean-up initiatives in the Ochanja area, and various other infrastructure projects within Onitsha as part of a broader vision for the city.

“This project is just the beginning of our plans for inland Onitsha,” he declared.

According to him,this is reinforcing his administration’s comprehensive strategy for improving urban infrastructure, environmental health, and quality of life.

The ceremony took a solemn turn as the governor observed a moment of silence in honor of the late Justice Azuka, a respected community leader and lawmaker.

Describing his death as both tragic and deeply unsettling. He acknowledged the security challenges it posed and reaffirmed his government’s resolve to combat violence.

“Some of the suspects involved in the incident have already been apprehended, vowing that justice will be served. “We will work tirelessly to restore societal values and root out those who act with impunity.”hw stated.

Turning to the upcoming bye-election for Onitsha North Constituency One, Governor Soludo urged residents to support the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barrister Mimi Azikiwe.

He stressed that electing an APGA representative would ensure more effective advocacy for the constituency’s needs within the state legislature.

“With APGA holding a majority in the State House of Assembly, it is vital to elect someone who will represent your interests and work in alignment with our developmental goals,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Aghamba, lauded Governor Soludo’s transformative efforts in Onitsha, citing notable improvements in water supply, road infrastructure, and educational access.

The Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Mr. Tony Nworah, expressed optimism about the upcoming election, expressing confidence in an APGA victory and affirming the party’s strong presence in the area.

The ceremony drew support from notable traditional and community groups, including Agbalanze and Umu Ikporo Onitsha, underscoring widespread grassroots backing for the governor’s initiatives and the renewed hope they bring to the bustling city.
