Sen. Nwebonyi Flags Off Two-Kilometre Amike Aba Town Hall Road Project in Ebonyi
From Nabob Ogbonna, Abakaliki
The Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has flagged off the construction of the first phase of the Amike Aba Town Hall Road project in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
The project, which is being executed under the Senator’s 2025 Constituency Intervention Programme, involves the construction of a two-kilometre road designed to meet modern engineering and construction standards.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Senator Nwebonyi disclosed that the road would be constructed using concrete pavement because of the area’s soil composition and topography. According to him, the decision was informed by the need to ensure durability, reduce maintenance costs, and provide residents with a long-lasting road network.
He explained that the project is aimed at improving infrastructure, enhancing vehicular movement, and addressing the longstanding road challenges faced by residents of the community.
“We are going to construct a road that can last between 30 and 50 years, and it is going to be built with concrete,” the Senator said.
Senator Nwebonyi, who serves as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, stated that the Amike Aba Town Hall Road project forms part of his broader commitment to infrastructural development across Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
He noted that within his three years in office, he has facilitated the construction of over 10 kilometres of roads, as well as several culverts and bridges across the district, describing the projects as deliberate efforts to improve connectivity and stimulate socio-economic development.
The lawmaker further described the Amike Aba Town Hall Road as an economic empowerment initiative, stressing that upon completion, it would boost commercial activities, enhance property values, improve access to businesses and homes, and raise the overall standard of living of residents.
“I love doing this because, by opening this road, I have renewed and revived the economy of this area.
“In 2023, I promised the people of Ebonyi North that I would set a new standard for quality representation in the Senatorial District, and this project is part of fulfilling that promise,” he said.
He assured residents that the project would be completed in accordance with approved specifications and within the stipulated timeframe, reaffirming his commitment to delivering more people-oriented projects across the district.
