Ebonyi Governor Donates N101 Million to Victims of Nkalaha Attack
The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, on Thursday disbursed N101 million to victims of the February 26, 2025, attack in Nkalaha community, Ishielu Local Government Area.
The beneficiaries included both local residents and Fulani herders affected during the violence.
The attack, allegedly carried out by unidentified armed men suspected to be herders, claimed the lives of no fewer than 18 persons and led to the destruction of houses and properties worth millions of naira.
Reports suggest that the assailants infiltrated and later fled the community through boundary routes.
Addressing the victims on behalf of the governor, Deputy Governor Mrs. Patricia Obila described the incident as a tragedy and warned that such violence must not be allowed to recur.
“This gesture is not because we have too much, but because we have the heart to help, urging beneficiaries to utilize the funds responsibly. “Do not assume more will come or misuse what has been given.”she stated.
According to the Deputy Governor,18 families who lost loved ones will receive N2 million each, amounting to N36 million, 41 households whose homes were burned will receive N1 million each,Owners of four motorcycles destroyed during the attack are also included in the compensation,Victims who lost cash in their homes among them Fulani residents of Nkalaha—will collectively receive N20 million, especially in consideration of cows lost during the attack.
“One good thing about this government is that we do not discriminate,” “Everyone affected, regardless of ethnicity, is being considered. The total disbursed sum stands at N101 million.” Mrs. Obila emphasized.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Ishielu Local Government Area, Mrs. Peace Agwu, confirmed that peace has been restored to the area.
She praised the governor’s inclusive approach, particularly his gesture toward Fulani victims, describing it as a true demonstration of the “One Nigeria” spirit.
