Udogachi’s Assault on Female Corps Member in Anambra Unacceptable – Sir Paul Chukwuma
Sir Paul Chukwuma
The governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) for the upcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election, scheduled for November 8, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has condemned the assault on a female corps member by the state-backed security outfit, Udogachi, describing the act as completely unacceptable.
In a personally signed statement made available to journalists, Sir Paul Chukwuma expressed outrage at what he called the persistent abuse of innocent citizens by Udogachi operatives in Anambra State an alarming trend, he said, that offends every right-thinking individual.
He said that Ms. Jennifer Elobor, a corps member serving in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area was reportedly beaten to a pulp and stripped naked by multiple Udogachi operatives.
According to Sir Paul, he is “appalled by the absurdity” that such violations have become the daily reality for many residents of Anambra, who now live under fear and oppression from a security outfit that was ostensibly established to protect them.
His statement reads:“I have watched the video of the assault on a young lady by operatives of Udogachi, a security outfit under the control of the Anambra State Government. The victim, now identified as Ms. Jennifer Elobor, a corps member posted to Oba in Idemili South LGA, was brutally beaten and stripped naked by several Udogachi personnel.
This barbaric behavior is not an isolated incident. Similar acts of violence and abuse by Udogachi operatives continue to be meted out to unsuspecting members of the public in Anambra, shocking all sane observers.
I am deeply disturbed by this trend, which has sadly become the lived experience of Ndi Anambra — people now held hostage in their own land by those who were supposed to ensure their safety.
Yet, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, has failed to call this rogue outfit to order. The government’s apparent indifference has only emboldened Udogachi’s pattern of extortion, abuse, and even extrajudicial killings all while insecurity in the state worsens.
This latest incident must not be swept under the carpet like so many before it. I call on the Anambra State Government to take decisive action against these public abusers and bring them to justice. I also urge the security agencies to immediately apprehend all operatives involved and ensure they face the full weight of the law.”
