Anambra PDP Stakeholders Caution NWC Against Plans to Dissolve State Exco

By Chuks Collins, Awka

Critical stakeholders, party elders, and surviving founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State have strongly cautioned the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) against any plan to dissolve the duly elected State Executive Committee.

The Elders Council, led by former Vice Presidential candidate Senator Ben Obi, made this call over the weekend in Awka, during a meeting at Senator Obi’s country home.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the meeting, Senator Obi warned the NWC against taking any steps that could destabilize the state chapter of the party.

Rising from the meeting, the party leaders emphasized that there is no internal crisis or disagreement within the Anambra PDP that could warrant the dissolution of the executive.

They stated clearly that there has been no protest or petition challenging the legitimacy of the elected State Executive Committee.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Elders Council, Chief Felix Oli and Dr. Odili Ojukwu respectively the council reiterated their unwavering support for the party’s organs as they navigate current challenges.

However, they expressed firm opposition to any moves that could undermine the stability of the party in the state.

They expressed deep appreciation to the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), NWC, National Caucus, and the Governors’ Forum for their commitment to stabilizing the PDP at the national level.

According to the communiqué:“The current Anambra State PDP Executive is performing admirably well.

“There is relative peace within the party, and all stakeholders are being actively engaged.

No injustice has been meted out to any member, and the Executive maintains a strong working relationship with the NWC. The sudden propagation of falsehoods against a duly constituted executive committee is both regrettable and concerning.” it stated.

The Elders Council urged the NWC and the Governors’ Forum to consider the broader implications of any disruptive actions, warning that such steps could be interpreted as attempts to weaken internal cohesion and undermine the credibility of both the forthcoming Anambra governorship election and the PDP National Convention both scheduled for November 2025.

They stated emphatically:“The Anambra State PDP Elders Council firmly declares that any attempt to disrupt or dissolve the legitimately elected Executive Committee would be a direct invitation to instability and unrest in the state.”

The council warned the NWC to resist undue influence from individuals or groups pushing for unnecessary conflict, stressing that the party has made significant progress and there is no justification for regression.

The Elders Council, which includes prominent party figures such as former Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Josephine Anenih, and other former presidential aides, reaffirmed that no legal action has been instituted against the current executive. They stressed that all party members have been duly carried along in the affairs of the state chapter.

They noted:“One of the most commendable achievements of the current NWC remains the free and fair congress conducted in Anambra State. Having accomplished this milestone, the NWC must not allow itself to be manipulated into undermining its own success.”

“The Council wishes to set the record straight to guide both the NWC and party members: there is no legal action pending against the Anambra State Executive. Rumors suggesting otherwise are entirely false. We urge the NWC to exercise caution and discernment regarding individuals spreading misleading information.”

The council thanked the Ambassador Iliya Damagum-led national executive for its steadfast support during challenging periods and urged continued cooperation in preserving party unity and strength in Anambra and nationwide.
