Anambra Local Government Elections Scheduled for August 29, 2026 — ANSIEC
The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has announced that elections for Local Government Council Chairmen and Ward Councillors across the 21 local government areas of the state will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
This announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Genevieve C. Osakwe, Esq (JP), titled “Notice of Election,” and made available to journalists in Awka.
According to the statement, the Commission urged all registered political parties to collect their nomination forms from its headquarters, located at No. 14/16, Km 8, Awka–Onitsha Expressway, Awka.
The Commission also noted that the timetable and schedule of activities for the election will be available for collection at its office beginning Friday, November 28, 2025.
ANSIEC stated that the election will be conducted in accordance with Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, and Section 23 of the Anambra State Electoral Law, 2024, both of which empower the Commission to issue notices of election.
The Commission called on political parties, stakeholders, and the general public to take note of the relevant dates and to ensure full compliance with all electoral guidelines as preparations for the polls commence.
