Team Anambra Grabs 12 Medals At National Youth Games In Asaba

Anambra State has made a remarkable impact at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, securing a total of 12 medals: 3 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze across multiple sporting events.
The medals were won in Taekwondo, Scrabble, Shot Put, 1500m Athletics, Kung Fu, Karate, and Swimming, showcasing a strong all-around performance by Team Anambra.
In Scrabble, the trio of Ubammayie Michael, Awaka Chukwuebuka, and Odii Timothy clinched gold in the male team event, while Ubammayie Chidiebere, Nnenkwo Onyinye, and Nnekwo Sandra added a silver medal in the female team event.
Ubammayie Michael and Awaka Chukwuebuka are also set to compete in the Scrabble male doubles, while Ubammayie Chidiebere and Nnenkwo Onyinye will participate in upcoming rounds, raising hopes for additional podium finishes.
Coach Odionye Bethel praised the athletes’ commitment and hinted that more medals could still be won from events yet to conclude.
In athletics, Ukaoha Blessing claimed gold in the female Shot Put, while Victor Okenwa earned bronze in the male category. Faith John also secured a bronze medal in the 1500m event, bringing the state’s athletics medal tally to three: one gold and two bronze.

Director of Sports, Emeka Obidima, commended both the athletes and their coaches for their outstanding efforts, urging them to remain focused as the Games continue.
“You have made Anambra proud, but there are still more opportunities to win medals. Keep pushing, keep believing,” he encouraged.
With several events still ongoing, Team Anambra is confident of surpassing its previous National Youth Games record, aiming for a historic finish in Asaba.
