Police Arrest ‘Champion the Truth’ Bishop in S@x Harassment Probe

By Nabob Ogbonna, Abakaliki

The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested the General Overseer of Champion the Truth Cathedral, Bishop Ndibueze Okorie Onyagoziri, over allegations of serial s@xual exploitation of female members of his church, including a 22-year-old sickle cell patient.

According to reports, the Bishop allegedly coerced the young woman into engaging in a week-long s@xual relationship under the guise of providing “divine healing” that would miraculously change her genotype from SS to AA.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Joshua Ukandu, told journalists on Thursday.

“Yes, the Bishop is with us here at the police headquarters in Abakaliki. He was arrested on Wednesday, October 1, and brought to the command. The matter is under investigation.”he said.

Sources reveal that the Bishop recorded videos of the alleged s@xual acts and later circulated them on Facebook and other social media platforms. Investigators believe he intended to use the footage to blackmail the victim and maintain control over her.

The victim reportedly agreed to the Bishop’s demands due to emotional and psychological stress, stemming from her health challenges and the trauma of having lost three siblings to sickle cell complications.

After the videos surfaced online, the Bishop publicly denied involvement, claiming that the footage had been digitally manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI).

However, the victim came forward to confirm her identity in the video, directly refuting the Bishop’s claims.

“I complied with everything he asked for, believing it would cure me. But after seven days, nothing changed. My sister eventually forced me to leave the church. I was shocked to see my nakedness on Facebook. The Bishop carried out his thr@at,” she stated.

The incident has sparked outrage across Ebonyi State, with human rights activists calling for justice and expressing concern over the growing trend of religious leaders exploiting vulnerable individuals, particularly women.
