You Are Catalysts for My Educational Reform, Soludo Tells Anambra Teachers

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo, has commended the invaluable contributions of teachers to the development of society.

Emphasizing the crucial role educators play in shaping the future of education in Anambra State, he described teachers as catalysts for his administration’s educational reform agenda.

Speaking at Alex Ekwueme Square during this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebration, Governor Soludo called for greater appreciation of teachers across the globe, while particularly acknowledging the dedication and resilience of those in Anambra.

“Everyone was brought up by a teacher,” he added.

He said teachers make universal impact, ,underscoring the profession’s critical roles in the society.

Soludo expressed his gratitude for the hard work and commitment of teachers in the state.

“You are doing a fantastic job, and I want to emphasize that basic statistics show Anambra is leading in many educational metrics,” he added.

The governor stressed that “there is no educational system without the teachers,” asserting that the future of any society is intrinsically tied to the quality of its educators and the standard of teaching they deliver.

In addressing the challenges facing education in the state, Soludo highlighted efforts by his administration to reverse years of systemic neglect.

He revealed that his government had recruited 8,115 teachers through a competitive selection process that attracted applicants from 18 states across Nigeria.

“Since we assumed office, literacy and numeracy levels have improved by over 40 percent, and enrollment rates have surged,” he noted.

Reflecting on the state of public education when he took office, the governor stated:
“When we came in, we discovered that public education had been completely neglected and abandoned. We vowed to restore the sector to its rightful place.”

To consolidate the gains already recorded, Soludo announced plans to hire even more teachers in the near future.
“We will announce the recruitment of more teachers soon,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngọzi Chuma-Udeh, acknowledged the profound influence teachers have on individuals and communities.

“These are the parents whose lives you have positively touched,” she told the audience, recognizing the essential role of educators in shaping future generations.

Professor Chuma-Udeh reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the state government’s efforts to revitalize education.
“We will continue to declare the good works of the Governor,” she said.

She reiterated the administration’s dedication to improving educational quality and addressing the needs of families in Anambra.

Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), and Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), both highlighted the remarkable achievements of the Soludo administration in the education sector over the past three and a half years.

They pledged continued support for ongoing initiatives, while noting that class sizes in some schools have risen to 70 students or more—largely due to the implementation of free education policies, which have significantly increased enrollment.
