Late Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai
The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of one of Nigeria’s most revered Christian leaders, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who peacefully departed on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80.
In a condolence message issued by the Governor’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo described the death of the legendary preacher, renowned evangelist, and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association as a monumental loss not only to Nigeria but to the global body of Christ.
Governor Soludo eulogized Rev. Ukpai as a true father of faith, a spiritual giant, and a fearless gospel crusader whose life was a testament to the power of faith, unwavering devotion, and dedicated service to God and humanity.
He further said that Rev. Dr. Ukpai was more than just a preacher rather he was a pivotal figure in Christian evangelism, a beacon of national integrity, and a foundational pillar of the Nigerian Pentecostal movement.
“For decades, his powerful voice resonated across continents, bringing salvation, healing, and hope to millions,” Soludo said.
According to the Governor, the narrative of modern Christianity in Nigeria and across Africa would be incomplete without recognizing the indelible impact of Rev. Ukpai—through his evangelistic crusades, theological teachings, and the establishment of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, which has been instrumental in winning countless souls for Christ.
Governor Soludo also extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late evangelist, the entire Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, and the Christian community in Nigeria, praying that God grants Rev. Ukpai eternal rest and comforts his family in this time of immense loss.
