The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has celebrated the liberation of Ihiala Local Government Area from the grip of criminal elements that had previously destabilized the area.
In a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Christian Aburime, the governor made the remarks while addressing a large crowd during a campaign rally held in Ihiala.
Describing the rally as a historic milestone, Soludo noted that Ihiala had once been a stronghold of insecurity, where political activities and gatherings were virtually impossible.
“This is not just another campaign rally; today is different and historic. We have come to celebrate the liberation of Ihiala,” the governor declared.
He reflected on the grim situation in the area just four years ago, when violent incidents and widespread insecurity made it unsafe for any political party to hold rallies.
“On the day we scheduled our APGA rally, we couldn’t come because of massive shootings, and people were wounded,” “Even the election had to be postponed and rescheduled to hold on a different day.” he recalled.
As part of his administration’s commitment to sustained peace, he announced the launch of an amnesty program for youths previously involved in criminal activities.
He urged those still in hiding to take advantage of the initiative, which includes opportunities for rehabilitation and skills acquisition.
Highlighting the strong grassroots support for his administration, Soludo remarked:“Communities are contributing funds to our campaign something never seen before in the history of this state.”
Soludo also emphasized the transformation that has occurred since his administration came into office, crediting the collaborative efforts of community stakeholders and security agencies in restoring peace and stability.
He ended his address on an optimistic note, pledging to return to the community with a detailed progress report on his administration’s ongoing projects.
“Anambra is rising,” he said .
Speaking on behalf of the Ebonesie community, Rev. Fr. Ernest Obiegwu expressed deep appreciation for the improvements witnessed in the area.
“Our churches, which were once closed, have finally reopened, and for the first time in years, we are celebrating Mass again,” he said, underscoring the spiritual and social revival taking place.
Pastor Azuka Mgbochi also commended Governor Soludo for the success of his security initiatives, stating, “Thanks to the Governor’s efforts, we now feel safe and secure in our homes and places of worship.”
Other community leaders echoed similar sentiments. Chief Nwabueze Umeh and Hon. Chika Obi pledged to actively mobilize resources and support for Soludo’s campaign. Comrade Ukatu Damian, Adaobi Orizu, and Ichie Ifeanyi Orjiakor also affirmed their dedication to working tirelessly for the governor’s success in the upcoming election.
Together, they presented a united front—celebrating progress, consolidating community support, and expressing hope for a more prosperous future for Ihiala and Anambra State at large.
