Anambra CP Tours Police Formations, Demands Vigilance Ahead of Gubernatorial Election

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Monday, embarked on an extensive tour of police formations across the state to assess the readiness of officers and men of the command ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

As part of the tour, the Commissioner also led high-visibility patrols across strategic locations and checkpoints to evaluate the alertness and operational preparedness of personnel on duty.

According to a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the tour forms part of ongoing security preparations for the Anambra State gubernatorial election.

“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Monday, embarked on an operational tour and evaluation exercise across various police area commands to assess the preparedness of officers and men for the crucial assignment,” the statement read.

The exercise began with a visit to the Onitsha Area Command, where the CP led patrols through major routes and sensitive areas within the jurisdiction. During the tour, CP Orutugu addressed officers and men, emphasizing the importance of professionalism, neutrality, and strict adherence to the rule of law during election duties.

He further charged officers to maintain the highest standards of discipline and integrity, stating that the Command is fully committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment before, during, and after the election.

The Commissioner also reaffirmed the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to delivering free, fair, and credible elections across the country.

During the patrol, CP Orutugu inspected operational bases, police posts, and checkpoints to verify that deployed officers were alert, well-equipped, and professionally conducting themselves. He commended the support and cooperation of sister security agencies and other stakeholders in the area, noting that their synergy with the Police has been invaluable.

He also called on residents of Anambra State to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
