The Ebonyi State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that the party is preparing to appeal the Federal High Court ruling delivered on Tuesday, which sacked its 13 local government chairmen and 171 councillors across the state.
The State Chairman of the party, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Wednesday after a meeting with the affected local government chairmen in Abakaliki.
Emegha stated that the judgment of the Federal High Court was appealable and that the party had already taken steps to challenge it.
According to him, “The APC in Ebonyi State has approached the Court of Appeal over yesterday’s judgment. The Federal High Court ruling is appealable, and as we speak, our lawyers are already working on it. But that is not exactly why we are here today,” he stated.
The chairman explained that the meeting was primarily convened to strategize on welcoming new opposition stakeholders into the party, as well as to prepare for the national registration and revalidation exercise scheduled for next month.
“We are here to brainstorm. Some opposition members have indicated interest in joining the APC, and we discussed ways to integrate them.
“Also, beginning from November 10, 2025, the APC will commence a nationwide registration and revalidation of members. That was a major item on our agenda because we need to ensure the process starts effectively from the grassroots,” he said.
Our reporter gathered that a serving member of the House of Representatives is among those expected to defect to the ruling party.
