Paul Chukwuma Slams Soludo for Failing to Deliver Promised Livable Homeland
Sir Paul Chukwuma
The governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) for the November 8 Anambra State gubernatorial election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has sharply criticized the administration of Professor Charles Soludo for what he described as a glaring failure to fulfill its promise of creating a livable and prosperous homeland for the people of Anambra State.
According to Chukwuma, Soludo’s administration has been long on rhetoric but short on results, especially in critical areas such as access to potable water, public infrastructure, and security.
He argued that the government’s inability to provide clean and safe water ,a basic necessity of modern life epitomizes the wider failure of governance under the current regime.
“Governor Soludo’s inability to ensure that Ndi Anambra have access to potable water speaks volumes about his government’s inefficiency and misplaced priorities,” “This failure is even more alarming when we consider that water is the foundation of public health and urban development. A government that cannot guarantee this fundamental need has no moral basis to speak of building a livable homeland.”Chukwuma said.
Chukwuma further dismissed the government’s recent claims of “restoring water supply” in parts of the state, including Onitsha and Awka, describing them as “a fluke” and “mere political theatre.”
“The so-called restoration of water supply is nothing more than a publicity stunt,” “Enormous public funds were squandered in the name of that project, yet the people have seen no tangible results. It’s a tragedy that this administration continues to use the people’s suffering as a backdrop for political propaganda.”he said.
Citing specific examples, Chukwuma lamented the neglect of major public utilities such as the World Bank–assisted water treatment plant in Onitsha, which he said has been left to decay without any meaningful government intervention.
“That facility was designed to serve thousands of households, create jobs for young people, and stimulate economic activity across the value chain,” “Instead of revitalizing it, this government has allowed it to waste away. We are not just losing access to clean water; we are losing opportunities for employment, skill development, and local enterprise.”Chukwuma explained.
Drawing a sharp contrast, Chukwuma noted that similar water projects in states such as Enugu, Lagos, Abakaliki, and Kaduna are operational and even undergoing expansion , evidence, he said, that effective leadership and strategic management can deliver results when there is genuine commitment to the public good.
Chukwuma, whose late father was a staff member of the Anambra State Water Corporation, said he personally understands the importance of functional public utilities to the welfare and dignity of the people.
“My late father worked at the Anambra State Water Corporation, so I know firsthand what it means for our people to live without reliable water supply. What Soludo’s administration is doing is not just administrative negligence — it’s a moral failure. They are playing politics with the people’s welfare,” he added.
