Soludo Tasks Anambra Paydirect Contractors on Converting Waste to Wealth
Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has charged the Paydirect Contractors to embark on comprehensive waste management initiatives aimed at converting waste into wealth.
The Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA), is expected to provide the necessary support to ensure effective waste disposal and management across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the governor while receiving the newly elected Chairman and Executive Members of the Anambra Waste Disposal Paydirect Contractors in his office, the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odumegwu, emphasized the government’s readiness to provide the essential infrastructure required for optimal performance.
“You are all veterans in the business of waste disposal, and your contributions to maintaining a clean and healthy Anambra State have never been in doubt,”
“However, there is a need for us to move beyond mere waste disposal to full-scale waste management. The state government will continue to support you in this transformation.”he said.
At the ASWAMA headquarters, the Managing Director of the agency, Chief Ifeanyi Ozoemena, described the introduction of the Paydirect Contractors scheme as a novel initiative that has saved the government significant resources, as it no longer bears the financial burden of direct waste disposal payments.
“I congratulate the new executive of this body and commend you for ensuring a smooth transition. It remains the desire of the state government to continue its partnership with you and your new leadership,” Ozoemena stated.
He further noted that the absence of waste management issues in the political opposition’s discourse was a testament to the effectiveness of both the Ministry of Environment and ASWAMA.
“Since your involvement in waste disposal and management, we have witnessed remarkable transformations. We urge you to sustain and exceed these achievements. The government stands ready to provide additional infrastructure and other enablers to help realize a cleaner and healthier Anambra State,” he added.
Earlier, the newly elected Chairman of the Paydirect Contractors, Chief Uchenna Auswell Okpala-Ezissi, appealed to the state government for further assistance. He pledged that the contractors would intensify their efforts in waste-to-wealth initiatives as Governor Soludo begins his second term in office.
“We appreciate the cordial relationship between the government and the previous executive. In that same spirit, we extend our hand of partnership to the government and appeal for the provision of the necessary templates and infrastructure to help us achieve our shared vision of a clean and healthy Anambra State,” he said.
