Anambra Nurses Did Not Contribute Money to Thank Soludo for Approving CONHESS Implementation — Onwuka
Governor Charles Soludo

Nurses and midwives in Anambra State have expressed strong concern over an allegation that they contributed money to thank Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for approving the implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).
Chairperson of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Anambra State Council, Comrade Edith Onwuka, refuted the allegation in an exclusive interview with this journalist. She categorically stated that nurses and midwives in the state did not contribute any money to appreciate the governor for the salary increment, describing the claim as false and malicious.
According to Onwuka, the rumour was deliberately fabricated to create disaffection between the state government and health workers. She described those spreading the misinformation as enemies of progress who were bent on destroying the cordial relationship between nurses, midwives, and the Soludo administration.
Onwuka said the nursing community in Anambra remained genuinely appreciative of the governor’s commitment to transforming the health sector and his worker-friendly policies.
“We didn’t give anybody instructions to contribute money to appreciate the governor or anyone else for anything,” “What we agreed upon as a union was a levy to furnish our secretariat. We don’t know where this fake news originated from.”Onwuka clarified.
The NANNM chairperson highlighted some of the association’s key achievements under her leadership.
She noted that her administration successfully constructed the Nurses’ House (Secretariat) in Awka, procured a secretariat bus, and recently witnessed the approval and full implementation of 100% CONHESS for health workers by Governor Soludo—an achievement from which nurses and midwives have directly benefited.
Onwuka reaffirmed the union’s commitment to supporting the state government’s health reforms and urged members of the public to disregard any unfounded allegations aimed at tarnishing the image of nurses and midwives in Anambra State.
