The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has expressed deep appreciation to security stakeholders, community leaders, and residents of the state for their unwavering cooperation and support to the Police during the just-concluded Anambra Governorship Election.
In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Commissioner noted that the peaceful atmosphere recorded across the state was the result of collective efforts and commitment from sister security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), traditional rulers, youth groups, and other critical stakeholders who worked closely with the Police to sustain the message of peace and promote communal harmony before, during, and after the polls.
According to the statement, CP Orutugu said that the strong inter-agency collaboration and robust community partnership significantly enhanced operational coordination and contributed immensely to the overall success of the Command’s election security plan.
This, he said, ensured that voters exercised their franchise in a safe, secure, and orderly environment.
While commending officers and men of the Command for their professionalism, dedication, and resilience throughout the election period, the Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining public order and protecting lives and property across the state.
SP Ikenga further disclosed that the Commissioner urged residents to continue supporting the Police and other security agencies in consolidating the gains of peace achieved during the elections.
He encouraged the public to promptly report any suspicious persons or activities capable of undermining public safety.
“It will be recalled,” “that a few weeks before the Anambra Governorship Election, the Commissioner of Police embarked on a state-wide security advocacy tour, engaging traditional rulers, youth leaders, religious organizations, and market unions. The advocacy focused on promoting peace, building voter confidence, and strengthening community partnership towards achieving a violence-free election.”the statement added.
The statement reiterated that the Command does not take the people’s cooperation for granted. It encouraged residents to continue upholding the same spirit of unity, tolerance, and mutual respect that fosters collective resolve to reject anything capable of dividing the state or threatening its peace.
