The governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the last  November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship Election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has reaffirmed his commitment to the YPP, declaring that he has no intention whatsoever of defecting to any other political party.

In a statement released by his media aide, Dr. Ebuka Onyekwelu, Sir Paul made the declaration while addressing members of his political family several days after the gubernatorial election. According to the statement, the YPP candidate has reached a firm decision to remain within the party he contested under.

“I have taken the time to think deeply about this. I have listened to various arguments and considered the many efforts to persuade me otherwise. But after a careful and honest assessment, I wish to state clearly that I will remain in the YPP,” Sir Paul Chukwuma said.

The announcement, the statement noted, came as a surprise to certain members of his political structure.

As a founding member and major financier of the APC in Anambra State, Sir Paul Chukwuma’s departure from the APC shortly before the party’s primaries and his subsequent decision to pursue his gubernatorial ambition on the YPP platform was regarded by many as a significant political development ahead of the election.

The statement further explained that many political observers had assumed that Sir Paul would swiftly return to the APC once the election was concluded. His firm decision to remain in the YPP, which he communicated directly to his core supporters during the meeting, has now decisively ended such speculation.

According to Sir Paul Chukwuma, he is “comfortable” within the YPP and firmly believes that he and his team must continue to strengthen and expand the party, rather than abandon it prematurely.

During the meeting, he also reiterated that he is closely monitoring the governorship election outcome and will take whatever action is necessary at the appropriate time.
