Security Operatives Arrest Escaped Member of Secessionist Group in Ozubulu

 

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with the Ozubulu Central Vigilante Group, have arrested one Emmanuel Osuigwe, suspected to be a member of a proscribed secessionist group. He was apprehended at Amakwa, Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesman, SP Ikenga Tochukwu.

According to the statement, Osuigwe was observed acting suspiciously and attempted to hide upon sighting the joint patrol team. He was immediately apprehended, and a search conducted on him revealed a fresh handcuff wound as well as the recovery of a handcuff.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to being a member of the proscribed secessionist group. He further claimed that he had recently escaped from one of the group’s camps located in Ukpor, following a disagreement with other members.

SP Ikenga added that the suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing further interrogation. He noted that Osuigwe has already provided useful information that is aiding ongoing investigations.

The arrest was made as part of the enhanced security measures introduced by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD, which include strengthened surveillance, increased visibility policing, and expanded routine and targeted patrols across the state, both day and night.

The Anambra State Police Command assured residents of its continued commitment to maintaining peace, security, and public safety. Further developments on the investigation will be communicated in due course.
