Paul Chukwuma Emerges YPP National Leader
The candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the 2025 Anambra State governorship election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has been elected National Leader of the party.
He was unanimously chosen by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) during its meeting on Thursday.
Chukwuma, who placed third—finishing ahead of the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates—in the recently concluded Anambra governorship election, according to INEC results, emerged as a surprise choice to many observers.
The unanimous conferment of the national leadership on Sir Paul Chukwuma took place during the 24th NEC meeting held in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
By this development, he succeeds the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the former National Leader of the party.
During the same NEC session, several other appointments were made.
The former Chief of Staff to the late Senator Ubah, Hon. Chigozie Gerald Udogu, was elected Deputy National Secretary of the YPP.
Similarly, Hajiya Nana Mahmoud emerged as Deputy National Chairperson, while Hon. Owoyombo Gbenga Solomon was appointed Acting National Youth Leader.
Other officials elected include Barr. Uche Levis as National Legal Adviser, Hon. Olatunbosun Abolarinwa as National Security Adviser, and Hon. Sani Darma as Zonal Chairman, North West.
The NEC further passed a vote of confidence on the national leadership of the party under Comrade Bishop Amakiri.
On disciplinary matters, the NEC ratified the earlier expulsion of Hon. Peter Uzokwe by the National Working Committee over what it described as anti-party activities.
Addressing national issues, the NEC commended the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Minister of Defence and firmly rejected any attempt to steer Nigeria toward a one-party state.
