Police arrest two suspected cultists in Anambra, recover firearms
Police in Anambra State have arrested Oluebube Ifediorah and Offorbuike Emmanuel over an alleged plot to launch a rival cult attack.
Operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS), Enugwu Ukwu, apprehended the suspects after acting on actionable intelligence indicating that a dangerous cult group was gathering in the early hours of Thursday to initiate a rival clash.
In a statement released on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the police said officers swiftly mobilized to the location of the planned confrontation and arrested the two suspects.
He explained that the arrest took place in Enugwu Ukwu, within Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, the operatives also recovered a locally-made double-barrel shotgun and two live cartridges.
“The recovered firearm was found in a red bag in the possession of Oluebube Ifediorah, while several other members of the cult gang managed to flee into the surrounding bush,” he said.
Ikenga added that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the remaining fleeing gang members.
He noted that the operation is part of the Anambra State Police Command’s sustained efforts to rid the state of cult-related violence and other criminal activities.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to aid in the fight against cultism and other forms of crime in the state.
