The Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, Enugu State, has organised a one-day interactive staff reorientation programme for its entire workforce.
The reorientation is aimed at keeping staff abreast of emerging trends in the public service as well as recent changes in government policies, with particular emphasis on public service rules and regulations.
The interactive session, held at the college’s multipurpose auditorium, was impactful, providing staff members with ample opportunity to familiarise themselves with contemporary developments in the public service.
The programme also served as a platform for cross-fertilisation of ideas among staff across departments.
Addressing the workforce, the Provost of the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, Dr. Jude Ejikeme Obidiegwu, emphasised the necessity of organising such periodic reorientation exercises to adequately prepare staff members, regardless of their years of service or experience.
Dr. Obidiegwu further highlighted the importance of the reorientation programme, noting that government policies and directives are constantly evolving to meet global demands and changing market realities.
He explained that the essence of the programme was to ensure that all staff remain attuned to these changes, thereby enabling the college to collectively fulfil its mandate while delivering greater value to the public it serves.
The Provost also informed staff that part of the objective of the exercise was to acquaint them with management’s plans to introduce new academic programmes, as the college is undergoing expansion to enhance its visibility, relevance, and impact both within Nigeria and beyond.
According to him, plans have been concluded to establish five additional departments to complement the existing seven departments in the institution, at both the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) levels.
Describing the reorientation programme as a “family meeting,” Dr. Obidiegwu said it was designed to keep staff informed about ongoing management plans and reforms. He reiterated his belief that effective leadership thrives on interaction, inclusiveness, and constant engagement with staff.
Contributing to the programme, the college’s Internal Auditor, Mr. Daniel Okeze—represented by Mr. Ajibola Adebisi—the Principal Registrar, Mr. Obinna Ezeano, the Bursar, Mr. Mohammed Ocheja, and other members of the management team stressed the importance of cooperation, discipline, and teamwork among staff.
They also cautioned against fraud and corrupt practices, describing them as inimical to the ethics and rules governing the public service.
The one-day staff reorientation programme featured an interactive question-and-answer session, which afforded the Provost, Dr. Jude Ejikeme Obidiegwu, the opportunity to directly address concerns, clarifications, and suggestions raised by staff members.
