It was a moment of celebration, reflection, and appreciation as the Anambra State Police Command honoured outstanding security personnel and stakeholders who demonstrated exceptional commitment to duty at its 2025 Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons and End-of-Year Party.
The event, which was successfully hosted on Tuesday at Nibo in Awka South Local Government Area of the state, brought together senior police officers, sister security agencies, government officials, community leaders, stakeholders, and members of the public in an atmosphere of unity and goodwill.

Among those honoured was the Commander, Special Anti-Cult Squad, Enugu-Ukwu, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ayuba Ahmadu, who was recognised as the Best Crime Fighter of the Year for his outstanding leadership and operational effectiveness in combating cultism and violent crimes. CSP Ahmadu had earlier received national recognition from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for his exceptional contributions to crime control and safety within student communities.
Also recognised was the Commander of the Agụnachmba Vigilante Group, Hon. Ken Emeakayi, who received an award for outstanding collaboration and consistent support in strengthening security across Anambra State.
His efforts were commended for complementing police operations through intelligence sharing and community-based security initiatives.
The Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, was also honoured as the Best Supportive Stakeholder, while Hon. Ambrose Obinna Onuzulike received an award for selfless service and sustained support to the Nigeria Police Force in the state.
In addition, the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, was recognised by the Senate Arm of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) as the Best Student-Friendly Police Public Relations Officer, in appreciation of his professionalism, transparent communication, and effective police–public engagement.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, while welcoming guests to the auspicious occasion, expressed deep appreciation to all attendees and described the gathering as a moment of reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment as the Command celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ and prepared for the year ahead.
According to him, the Christmas season serves as a reminder of enduring values such as love, peace, sacrifice, and goodwill, which align with the theme of the event, “Policing: A Shared Responsibility.”
He said that security cannot be achieved by the Police alone but requires the collective efforts of government, sister security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, the media, and all law-abiding citizens.
CP Orutugu expressed gratitude to the Anambra State Government, Ndi Anambra, sister security agencies, the Police Management Team, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, tactical teams, joint security task force operatives, and particularly the operatives of Agụnachmba.
According to Orutugu, the unity and collaboration remain critical in building a strong security framework for the state in 2025 and beyond.
Despite the challenges faced, the Commissioner noted that the Command remained resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property.
He stated that through intelligence-led policing, joint operations, proactive patrols, and strengthened community engagement, the Command has continued to enhance the state’s security architecture.
According to him, these achievements would not have been possible without timely intelligence and the trust reposed in the Police by the people of Anambra State.
Reassuring residents and visitors during the festive period, CP Orutugu disclosed that the Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, had intensified patrols and surveillance across the state.
Strategic locations, worship centres, markets, highways, and recreational areas, he said, were being adequately covered to ensure a peaceful celebration.
He, however, stressed that security remains a collective responsibility and urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of security efforts by promptly reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Commissioner called for renewed commitment to unity, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence, reaffirming the Command’s dedication to professionalism, accountability, and community-friendly policing.
CP Orutugu also specifically commended Inspector Okoma Ewa, Corporal Chawalamoke Godsfavour, and Constable Emekwisore Ifeanyi for their exceptional courage, swift response, and high level of professionalism in the line of duty.
He noted that the officers demonstrated uncommon bravery and tactical efficiency in responding promptly to a reported incident, denying armed hoodlums the opportunity to wreak havoc, while successfully recovering arms, stolen money, and other incriminating items.
According to him, their actions reflect the core values of the Nigeria Police Force and underscore the importance of discipline, dedication, and service to the public.
He thanked all present for their unwavering support and goodwill, wishing them and their families the joy, peace, and blessings of the Christmas season, and a prosperous New Year marked by greater security, harmony, and development for Anambra State.
The event featured carol renditions, goodwill messages, and the commendation of outstanding officers for gallantry, professionalism, and dedication to crime fighting, as well as the recognition of key stakeholders for their sustained partnership with the Police.
