The newly elected President-General of Nawgu Development Union in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Ifeanyi Ibebugwu, has pledged to run an all-inclusive, transparent, and people-oriented administration for the progress of the community.
Hon. Ibebugwu stated that under his leadership, the opinions and feelings of every indigene of Nawgu would be heard, respected, and considered, stressing that no individual or group would be marginalized.
According to him, unity, openness, and collective responsibility would remain the guiding principles of his administration.
The President-General made this assertion at St. Michael’s Catholic Church Field, Nawgu, during the combined 80th birthday celebration and Ofala festival of the traditional ruler of Nawgu, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Sir George Okaa-Onwuogu (Igwe Ora Chilli of Nawgu).
He emphasized that his administration would be anchored on accountability and transparency, assuring the community that he would always tell the truth and keep the people adequately informed about governance issues.

“We will ensure that the security of Nawgu Community improves significantly. In fact, we will work in line with the development vision of His Excellency, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State,” Hon. Ibebugwu said.

Speaking on the recently concluded election, Hon. Ibebugwu described it as historic, noting that it was the first time the Nawgu community demonstrated such massive solidarity toward the winner of a President-General election.
“In previous elections, about 400 to 500 people usually turned out to vote. But in this election, over 1,000 people came out. This clearly shows the level of interest and confidence the people have. To the glory of God, the election was free, fair, and credible,” he stated.

He also commended the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Reverend Canon Ginika Nwa, for his integrity and firmness, noting that he refused to compromise the credibility of the electoral process despite pressures.

According to the President-General, the era of personal interests has ended, as development can only be achieved through unity and collective effort.

“I told my opponents that it is time to forget personal interests and focus on building Nawgu. I am happy that they all congratulated me, which shows their willingness to work together for the progress of our community,” he added.

Reacting to the 80th birthday and Ofala celebration of the monarch, Hon. Ibebugwu described Igwe Sir George Okaa-Onwuogu as a blessing to Nawgu even before his ascension to the throne.
He recalled that as a civil servant, the monarch showed deep affection and commitment to the welfare of Nawgu indigenes, noting that as a traditional ruler, has restored peace, strengthened security, and preserved the rich cultural heritage of the community.

Hon. Ibebugwu prayed for the monarch’s continued good health and wisdom to lead Nawgu to greater heights.
