Pride for Anambra: Soludo Applauds Youths Joining Police Cadets
The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo, has expressed deep joy and satisfaction over the increasing number of Anambra youths who have joined the Nigeria Police Force through the cadet scheme.
Governor Soludo made this known on Thursday during a ceremony at which the state government handed over 30 operational vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force.
The event also featured the formal presentation of newly commissioned cadet officers of Anambra origin by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.
Addressing the cadet officers, the governor described their decision to join the police as courageous and commendable, noting that such a career choice was once discouraged among youths in the state.
“It gives me great pleasure to see you joining the police force. There was a time when joining the security agencies was almost seen as a crime, but today I am pleased and impressed that you have chosen this noble path of service to nation,” Soludo said.
He stated that the police institution belongs to them and encouraged the cadets to see themselves as future leaders within the force.
“This police force belongs to you, the young cadets. From here, some of you will rise to become Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and other senior officers,” he stated.
The governor further expressed happiness that Anambra State now has tangible achievements worth celebrating, especially in the area of youth participation in national service.
“I am glad that Ndi Anambra are beginning to have positive milestones to celebrate,” he added.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the development as a great honour to the state.
He noted that the number of Anambra indigenes commissioned as cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police was unprecedented.
According to him, the figure is more than ten times the number recorded during his own period of service as a cadet officer in the former Rivers State, highlighting the remarkable progress made by Anambra youths in embracing careers in law enforcement.
