The Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, Enugu State, has concluded plans to establish five new academic departments.

The proposed departments are Mass Communication, Agricultural Technology, Home and Resource Economics, Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Science Laboratory Technology.

According to the college, these programmes will complement its already accredited courses while strengthening its commitment to producing a generation of self-reliant youths equipped with technical and vocational skills necessary for job creation and wealth generation.

Speaking to our reporter in his office shortly after a routine staff reorientation exercise held at the college’s ultramodern multipurpose auditorium on Wednesday, the Provost of the College, Dr. Jude Ejikeme Obidiegwu, disclosed that the first admission of students into the new departments is expected to commence in September 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

Dr. Obidiegwu explained that all administrative and technical requirements would be strictly followed. He noted that the Federal Cooperative College Oji River is regulated by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and supervised by the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN). Both agencies, he emphasized, will be fully involved throughout the process.

“These partnering agencies strengthen us while providing the needed platform for us to meet our college mandate and improve service delivery.”he added.

Dr. Obidiegwu further emphasized that the college’s curriculum is designed to promote self-belief, self-determination, and to make students market-ready for societal needs.
