Why Anambra Government Is Ending Sit-at-Home Order — Police

The Anambra State Police Command has explained that the recent corrective measures taken by the Anambra State Government are aimed at strengthening safety and security across the state.
The Command stated that the actions are specifically targeted at discouraging the illegal sit-at-home order and the closure of markets on Mondays, which have continued to disrupt economic and social activities in the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Command outlined a three-stage process through which the current security improvements in Anambra State have evolved.
According to the statement, the first stage involved efforts to address rising security challenges following attacks by criminal elements on security operatives and the destruction of government facilities.
These acts, he said, were carried out in a bid to instil fear among residents of the state.
Ikenga noted that despite these attacks and an initial “conspiracy of silence,” where residents were afraid to volunteer information, security agencies remained steadfast, demonstrating courage, professionalism, and resilience in the discharge of their duties.
He explained that the second stage was marked by a positive shift in public attitude, as residents gradually became more confident and began to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies by providing credible and actionable intelligence to support security operations.
The spokesman added that the third stage represented a deeper level of community involvement, with residents moving beyond information sharing to actively supporting the identification and arrest of criminal elements within their communities. This, he said, was strengthened through the launch of Operation Udo ga achi, a community-based security initiative.
According to him, the Anambra State Government, in collaboration with Ndi Anambra, has now resolved to address and correct harmful practices that emerged from past security concerns. These include the illegal sit-at-home order and the closure of markets on Mondays, which have no lawful backing.
The Anambra State Police Command, on behalf of all security agencies operating in the state, reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, as well as the maintenance of peace and security throughout Anambra State.
