Apprentice Murders Master, Attacks Wife with Pestle in Onitsha

An apprentice, Chiemerie Anieke, 21, allegedly murdered his master, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwite, and attacked his wife, Mrs. Ogechukwu Nwite, with a pestle in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Sunday.

According to reports, the suspect struck his master on the head with the pestle, resulting in his death.
The attack on Mrs. Nwite left her with several injuries.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident occurred in the early hours of February 15, 2026.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was provoked by his master’s rebuke over his lifestyle, including alleged pilfering of shop money, staying out late, and drug use. The suspect is currently in custody, and the pestle used in the attack has been recovered.

Mrs. Nwite was rescued and taken to a hospital, where she is responding to treatment.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for further investigation and prosecution.
