Ex–Senate President Pius Anyim Emerges Leader of APC South-East Elders Forum

Former Senate President and ex–Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Pius Anyim, has emerged as the leader of the South-East Elders Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The position became vacant following the death of former governor of old Abia State, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, who had led the Forum until his passing.
In a related development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently appointed Senator Anyim as National Vice Chairman for the APC National Convention, signaling confidence in his capacity to manage critical party affairs ahead of the convention.
The decision to appoint Anyim as leader of the South-East Elders Forum was reached at a meeting held at his residence in Ebonyi State.
The meeting was presided over by Senator Emma Anosike, who led deliberations among members of the Forum.
According to a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, members engaged in extensive consultations and considered other potential leaders within the geopolitical zone before unanimously settling on Senator Anyim, a recipient of the national honour Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), as “eminently qualified and strategically positioned to provide purposeful leadership for the Forum.”
The Forum cited his extensive experience in public service, legislative leadership, and executive administration, noting that his record demonstrates a capacity to foster political stability, promote regional cohesion, and advance socio-economic development in the South-East.
Describing him as a “level-headed elder statesman,” the Forum expressed confidence in his ability to galvanize party stakeholders across the zone and strengthen internal unity within the APC. It further emphasized that his leadership would be instrumental in consolidating support for President Tinubu’s reform agenda and securing broad-based backing for his re-election bid.
Reaffirming its commitment to the President, the Forum declared its support for Tinubu’s second term, describing his re-election as central to sustaining ongoing economic and institutional reforms.
“We have commenced strategic political consultations and grassroots mobilization across the South-East to ensure a cohesive and results-driven campaign structure ahead of the general election,” “We wish to assure Mr. President that the South-East geopolitical zone stands firmly behind his re-election.”the communiqué stated.
