APGA Launches Membership Drive, Targets Two Million Registrations in Ongoing Electronic Exercise
Ejimofor Opara, National Publicity Secretary, All Progressives Grand Alliance
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has set an ambitious target of over two million members as it prepares to commence its Continuous Electronic Membership Registration Exercise in March.
The party had previously recorded close to one million registered members in 2024, a milestone it now seeks to surpass in the forthcoming registration cycle.
According to APGA, the exercise aligns with recent amendments to Nigeria’s electoral framework and party regulations, which require political parties to maintain a verifiable and up-to-date membership database as a prerequisite for conducting primary elections—whether through direct primaries or consensus arrangements. The move, party officials say, is designed to strengthen internal democracy, enhance transparency, and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
The National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Ejimofor Opara, stated that the exercise is aimed at sanitising and consolidating the party’s membership records.
“This nationwide initiative will begin on March 1, 2026, and will take place simultaneously across all 8,809 electoral wards in Nigeria,” Opara said.
He explained that the continuous electronic registration drive is intended to accurately identify active and bona fide members of the party, noting that membership records are often affected by factors such as death, defection, or members attaining voting age.
“In June 2024, APGA became the first political party in Nigeria to automate its membership registration process,” he added. “This pioneering step reflects our commitment to transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity—values that remain at the core of our party.”
Opara outlined the requirements and procedures for registration:
A valid voter’s card and two passport photographs are required.
Registration can be completed online via the party’s official website or through its designated WhatsApp platform, or physically at the applicant’s ward to obtain and submit the registration form.
New members will receive a Temporary Membership Slip, followed by a Permanent Membership Card upon verification.
He further clarified that the exercise is primarily targeted at new members and those who need to update their records.
“Registration is open to new members nationwide,” Opara said. “Existing members who have already registered electronically are not required to re-register. However, members who have not uploaded their passport photographs should visit the party’s website or use the designated WhatsApp platform to update their records.”
The party leadership maintains that the exercise represents a strategic effort to consolidate its grassroots structures ahead of future electoral contests, while reinforcing institutional discipline and credible membership data management.
