Anambra Community Alleges Militarisation of Farmlands by NAF Green Garden Estate
The President General of Enugu-Agidi in Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State, Chief Pius Nwankwo, has raised the alarm over the alleged militarisation of the community by the developers of NAF Green Garden Estate.
NAF (Nigerian Air Force) Green Garden Estate, according to promotional materials circulated on social media, was unveiled in 2025 as a project situated on land reportedly duly acquired and strategically located within Enugu-Agidi.
The development is billed to comprise 800 duplexes and feature facilities such as maximum security, an Air Force base, and a gated estate system.
Other advertised amenities include asphalted roads, 24-hour power supply, 24-hour water supply,èche Nursery and Primary School, a shopping mall, a standard clinic, streetlights, a CCTV control room, a fire service station, and recreational facilities, including a swimming pool, lawn tennis court, basketball court, volleyball court, badminton court, indoor sports facilities, and a five-a-side football pitch.
However, Nwankwo, in an open letter authored on his behalf by Dr. Chinedu Ikeanyi—son of the late traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Davidson Ikeanyi and addressed to the purported estate developer, alleged that the land for the project was not duly acquired.
He claimed this was the reason military personnel were stationed on the disputed land is to “intimidate and prevent the owners from accessing their farmlands.”
“I wish to inform you that the military men you stationed at Enugu-Agidi farmlands to guard your so-called NAF Green Garden Estate are wreaking havoc. They are metastasizing like cancer and spreading to many other farmlands around the area. It is unsightly and terrifying to arrive at one’s farmland and see armed military men staring at you in a menacing and unfriendly manner.
“The Nigerian military does not have any legitimate business in Enugu-Agidi farmlands. Enugu-Agidi farmlands are not Sambisa Forest. With the current crisis threatening our country, Nigeria, and the numerous killings by terrorists, the military should be deployed to Sambisa Forest, not Enugu-Agidi farmlands,” he alleged.
According to him, the developer and others laying claim to the communal land should cease work immediately or present the documents used in acquiring the land to the Enugu-Agidi Land Committee, as requested by the community.
He maintained that the over 150 plots of land being claimed were wrongly acquired.
“Anyone investing in this so-called Green Garden Estate is doing so at his or her own peril. I will remain resolute on this matter until justice is served. Finally, Sir Marc Benito Ozigbo, please kindly instruct your armed military personnel to vacate Enugu-Agidi farmlands so that our widows and families can access their ancestral farmlands,” he added.
