NNL: Abakaliki FC Thrash Godswill Akpabio United 4–1

From Nabob Ogbonna, Abakaliki

Abakaliki Football Club, popularly known as the Rice Boys, returned to winning ways on Saturday as they thrashed Godswill Akpabio United Football Club of Akwa Ibom 4–1.
The match was played at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
The goals came in the second half of the game after a goalless encounter in the first half, which was largely attributed to the solid defensive line of the visiting team.
The Man of the Match, Chibuike Onwuzigbo, who spoke to journalists at the end of the game, attributed the victory to teamwork, resilience, and the determination of his teammates to bounce back from recent setbacks.
“We are very happy today. We have been working towards this since we lost two away games. So we kept pushing ourselves higher,” he said.
Also speaking, the Head Coach, Starplus Aniesta, expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, noting that it reflected the hard work introduced during training sessions in recent weeks.
“I am highly impressed with the boys. Though the first half ended goalless, their approach showed they were determined to respond after the results we had in the past two weeks.
“We have been working on scoring goals for weeks. Today, we are happy not only to secure the three points but also to score four goals in front of our fans,” he stated.
The captain of the visiting team, Wisdom Tom, praised his teammates for their performance in the first half but admitted that defensive lapses in the second half led to their defeat.
“I blame the defeat on loss of concentration after halftime in our defensive line. We did well in the first half, but in the second half we lost focus, and that affected the result,” he said.
