A member of the House of Representatives representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency of Abia State, Chief Ibe Osonwa, on Thursday donated earth-moving equipment and other empowerment items to his constituents to enhance rural access and boost agricultural productivity.

The items donated included a grader, a payloader, 50 motorcycles, 50 tricycle-sized cargo trucks, 30 minibuses, 100 sewing machines, and 100 refrigerators.

Other items were 100 air compressors, 100 generators, 100 grinding machines, and over 800 bags of rice.

The distribution exercise took place at the Ohafia Local Government Area Secretariat in Ebem Ohafia, where youths, women, farmers, artisans, and traders gathered in large numbers to benefit from the initiative.

Speaking at the event, Osonwa described the gesture as a demonstration of people-oriented representation aimed at placing practical economic tools directly in the hands of constituents.

He also highlighted his contributions over the past three years in key sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, ICT, and human capital development.

According to him:“We did not focus only on distributing buses, grinding machines, sewing machines, and similar items.

“We also provided a grader and a payloader to open up rural roads for our farmers, because ours is largely an agrarian community.

“Our constituency is blessed with rich vegetation, but one of the major challenges our people face is poor road access.

“Previously, we had to hire graders at enormous cost—sometimes spending millions of naira for just a few days of work.

“This intervention is not only empowering individuals but also the entire constituency. Our goal has always been to impact as many people as possible, not just a select few.”

In his remarks, Governor Alex Otti, represented by his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, commended Osonwa’s initiative, noting that it aligns with the administration’s vision of promoting productivity and self-sufficiency.

The governor further urged leaders at all levels to work collaboratively with the government to deliver more meaningful democratic dividends to the people.
